Bowl
French Guyana, Maroni. Boni. 1980s. Calabash
Gift from M. J. Vautier in 1994; context of creation not documented
MEG Inv. ETHAM 054580
This bowl made from a calabash cut into two is used to drink water. It is decorated inside with convex shapes and shaded on the outside of the motif in the businenge style of the east. The production and decoration of these kitchen utensils made from calabashes, which had become women’s speciality, has been rare since the use of industrial crockery. Judging from its style, this bowl was probably produced in the late 1980s. T. Mouzard
