In April 1955, Georges Barbey left on a six-month journey to Alaska. His mission was to complete the Genevan museums' collections. He hunted wild animals for the natural history museum. He collected mosses and lichens for the botanical gardens and acquired objects for the Ethnography Museum. During this journey, he travelled all over south-east Alaska and its parks in search of totem poles. On his return, he gave public lectures illustrated by the hundreds of slides he had taken and the films he had made. L. Monot/MEG
