As European nations reached the shores of Turtle Island (North America), Hodinohsho:ni established treaties and alliances with them. The Two Row Wampum was the inaugural treaty with Europeans (made with the Netherlands); symbolically, it depicts a ship of the Europeans alongside a canoe of the Hodinohsho:ni. Within the canoe are Hodinohsho:ni laws, philosophies, and knowledge; similarly, the ship holds the same elements for Europeans. Although we navigate the same river, we remain distinct entities. H.
