On June 5, 1924, Deskaheh wrote to René Claparède: ”I do pray to our Great Spirit to improve my illness.” On June 13, 1924, the Brantford County Sheriff’s office sent a letter to his wife, threatening to sell their farm. After departing Europe, Deskaheh never went back to Canada and his family, fearing arrest and in declining health. He found refuge in the Tuscarora Nation near the border between Canada and the United States. He passed away at the residence of Clinton Rickard on June 27, 1925. H. George
