On August 6, 1923, Deskaheh submitted a formal application to the League of Nations titled “The Redman’s Appeal for Justice.”. He garnered support from Ireland, Panama, Persia and Estonia, but was prohibited from addressing the September 1923 meeting. In response, Geneva’s Mayor, Jean-Baptiste Pons, extended an invitation for Deskaheh to present his speech. He also received backing from prominent figures, such as René Claparède and Rica Fleming-Gyll.
