Carlos Adaoudé. 2022
Carving on snakewood
Loaned by the artist and the Galerie Dominique Fiat, Paris
Born in 1984 in Guyana, Carlos Adaoudé lives in the village
of Papaïchton. Trained by his father on the Maroni river, then
in Libi Na Wan workshop in Kourou, he is the fifth generation
of tembeman in his family. Commissioned by the Maison de l’Amérique latine (Paris) in 2020 for the “Marronnage, l’art de briser ses chaînes” exhibition, this giant comb, seven times its real size, represents a traditional comb that considerate men carve to give to their women.
