Reproduction of a Two Row Wampum Belt
Made by Ken Maracle, 2023
Loan from the Woodland Cultural Centre
When Deskaheh, Levi General, travelled to Geneva, he carried with him two wampum belts: the Two Row Wampum Belt and a Friendship Belt.
In 1923, the Indian Agent at Six Nations of the Grand River, recommended European authorities arrest Deskaheh and confiscate the wampum belts. Today, the Two Row Wampum Belt is acknowledged by many Indigenous and non-Indigenous people for the significant principles it embodies, such as equality, respect, and self-determination. H. George
