Among the “Indians” objects brought to Geneva by Butini figures a “necklace of tiger’s teeth”. At the time, the term “tiger” included jaguars. It is also the word used by the naturalist Pierre Barrère (1690-1755), the author of several works published after his stay in French Guyana from 1722 to 1725. Butini knew Barrère’s books, whose tales and images already mentioned these typical objects that men and women travellers have always liked to bring back to Europe. D. Buyssens
